Seas and oceans
This document is a picture of a container ship in the port of Seattle which
is situated in Washington.
The Seattle port is a global container port traffic.
In fact, North America
represented 8% of this traffic in the world, it is the maritimization, a process
leading to increase exploitation of resources of seas and oceans and the boom in
trade by sea.
On the picture, we can see on the foreground the largest port of Seattle with
many containers.
Those containers can elevate by cranes and transport by boats,
cargos and trucks.
Then, the background represents the city of Seattle with
buildings.
This city with its huge size is a symbol of a world economy.
We can ask
us how does container port contribute to the globalized world by maritimization.
First of all, we will study economical stakes of the port in its state and then, we
will see the consequences associated at the maritimization by containers.
Firstly, almost 90% of trade pass by sea.
The major ports, on the Atlantic
and Pacific coasts, have the challenge of being the best thanks to container
traffic.
The contemporary port industry is organized to serve the global economy,
regional and local development needs like with the transport by containers for
example.
In fact, we can see on the document a lot of containers because containerization
allows the distribution of goods in a unified form, allowing a combination of rail,
road, river and maritime transport.
In addition, the fundamental value of ports is economic since they support trade
flows.
As they can represent a significant economic investment, ports are
expected to provide enough benefits to justify these investments.
On the
document we can see the passage of the port by which the cargoes arrive.
Global
trade is impossible without transport, which makes maritime transport a key to
trade.
Almost all maritime transport is therefore considered international trade.
Growth in global trade and distribution leads to continued demand for new
containers.
From the perspective of shipping companies, their containers are secondary
assets allowing more efficient use of their ship.
They maximize the use of their
ship, which is their main asset, and the container is a tool for this.
To finish about....
