Synthèse 1
As part of the notion “Places and Forms of Power”, I would like to talk about the
right to carry a gun in the USA.
With 85 guns for 100 hundred people, the
United States of America are the western country with the highest rate of
firearms in circulation.
I think this topic fits perfectly with the notion “Places and
Forms of Power”.
First of all, because America is the most powerful country in
the world but also because carry a gun gives you an almost unlimited power.
Today I will try to answer to the question: has the right to bear a gun in
America become a way of life? We will see that this right is considered as
inalienable by most of the American citizens, however there are more and more
demonstrations against gun power.
I.
YES
a.
The right to bear a gun is written in the American Constitution since 1971.
The
2nd Amendment stipulate that the “right of the people to keep and bear arms
shall not be infringed”.
It is the result of the chaotic history of the Pilgrims, the
first Europeans in the New World.
I discovered this history thanks to the short
film “Bowling for Columbine” from Michael Moore.
After their arrival they
massacred the native Americans, then the “Witch Hunt” happened and then the
British tried to come to colonize the territory and so on.
Because of the violent climate the right to bear a gun was, at the time, a real
need.
In his movie Michael Moor claims that this right was thereafter wrongly
used.
For instance, The Ku Klux Klan used it to commit racial actions, like
murder.
With this short remaining of the American history I wanted to explain how
deep the right to carry a gun is rooted in the history of the US.
b.
Recently the rights concerning gun were expended.
A couple years ago you
couldn’t bring a gun in bars, restaurants, any public places where you could
drink alcohol.
States like Georgia, Arizona or Virginia now accept concealed
guns in those places.
The only rule is to be sober.
The main point of the
lawmakers is that you need to be able to protect yourself at all time, even in
restaurants or bars.
A young woman was interviewed, she uttered that her
husband was shot in a bar and that this new law is a relief for her.
In addition President Donald Trump has been in opposition to gun-free zones....
